I am directed by the Rubber and Tin Exporta Committee

to acknowledge the receipt of Mr. Grindle's letter of the 18th,instant, (No.39160/1916), forwarding a copy of a telegram from the Governor of Hong Kong relative to a proposed shipment of 50 tons of Straits Tin to Messre. Aṭaka & Company

of Tokyo.

In reply, the Committee desire me to state, for the

information of Mr. Secretary Bonar Law, that, in their opinion, it is highly undesirable to allow Straite Tin to be re-exported from Hong Kong, as it is necessary that the distribution of Straits Tin be limited strictly to the quantities licensed for direct export from the Straits. In these circumstances,

therefore, the Committee consider that the export of the 50 tone now in question should not be allowed,
